Rebuilding of Chile still in planning stages

Here are some companies to keep an eye on who will be hiring should they contract for business with Chile. That country, like Haiti, is still just in the planning stages of the huge rebuilding work and tens of thousands of jobs will be created in Chile and here in the U.S. as manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers hire up to handle the workload.

Andersen Windows, 84 Lumber, Harbor Homes, Lowe’s, and Motorola
, will be participating in the Rebuild Chile Expo.

The participation of such well-known and respected U.S. companies is a clear indication of the importance of this trade event and highlights the potential investment opportunities for American companies.

According to Pete Curcio, Manager for Mexico and Latin America, Andersen Windows, “Chile needs new windows and doors and we are capable of producing over 6 million doors and windows a year”.

During the Exposition and particularly the conference program, Curcio is optimistic that he will be able to establish not only interim business relationships with local suppliers and government agencies, but will be able to forge long-term business relationships as the reconstruction plan continues to unfold.

According to conference planners, "The two-day conference program will give attendees the opportunity to meet and interact with key government officials and private sector individuals responsible for carrying out President PiƱera’s reconstruction plan”.

The conference at Rebuild Chile Expo will cover topics such as the roles of both the U.S. Department of Commerce and Chilean Government in the Rebuild Process; Rebuilding the Infrastructure; Regional Focus: Current Situation and Identified Priorities; Housing, Public Works and Infrastructure – Building Codes and Other Challenges.

The Rebuild Chile Expo Received Support from the Office of the Chilean President, U.S. Commerce Department, the Chilean AmCham, and United States Embassy.

Is anyone hiring in Haiti?

One of our members recently asked, "I've talked to a thousand different people in skilled trades, and no one can find any info on companies that will be working in Haiti. Is it to early to expect any kind of organized construction in that area."

That is the very reason we created this Job Search site. To find those companies that are going to be working in Haiti, and in other countries, and hiring skilled construction professionals.

Our research to date shows that some U.S. companies have received contracts (we've posted them here on the site), but they are being forced to try to use Haitian workers first (politically correct, of course). Unfortunately, the Haitians don't have a big enough, or experienced enough workforce to do the really big jobs (one reason there was so much destruction in the first place), so they are currently doing jobs like clearing debris and building very small structures. The big construction jobs can't start until the tons of debris are cleared.

When the really big construction jobs start, like at the Port and the Government buildings, U.S. companies will need skilled workers to get the jobs done right, on time, and on budget.

We have posted companies that will be rebuilding the Port. They are looking for workers with some maritime construction experience but it is always worth taking a look at their openings and getting in front of these companies with your skills.

We'll keep working hard to find the new jobs and will keep you posted! And, please tell those "thousand" people you talk to to visit this Web site!
